The Top New Android Apps of the Week – January 20, 2013

The Top New Android Apps of the Week â€" January 20, 2013

1. Tapatalk HD

In late December we let you know about the Tapatalk HD Beta app, and now it’s hit the mainstream minus that Beta tag. If you browse online forums a lot you already know about Tapatalk, and HD version is a nice upgrade for those of us with tablets. Still a few minor kinks to work out, but it’s well worth the $ 2.99 price tag.

2. Sundance Film Festival 2013

I’m a fan of film so it was great to see the official Sundance Film Festival App hit Google Play this week. The app gives you all sorts of information from film trailers and guides to event schedules, venue locations, and shuttle info. It’s the “official” app from the Sundance Institute and it’s great to have on hand if you can’t be at the Festival.

3. Psychedelic Prairie LWP

We’ve seen some cool Live Wallpapers lately, and we got another slick on this week with the Psychedelic Prairie LWP from addtheme. The LWP gives you a surreal scene of a prairie with billowy clouds, fireflies, windmills, and balloons. It’s a nice change of pace and it’s free to download on Google Play.

4. Mediafire

MediaFire finally released their official Android App earlier this week, and file sharers the world over rejoiced. Not a fan of the service personally and the app has a few permissions that shouldn’t be there, but it’s a popular service that a lot of people use. You can read a bit more about the app here or pick it up for free on Google Play.

5. Talking Angela

Outfit 7 wasted no time getting a new talking animal app out in 2013 as they released Talking Angela. She’s a cat in Paris and you’ll be able to chat with her, buy her gifts, and dress her up. If you have a front facing camera she’s also able to recognize simple gestures like smiling or sticking your tongue out. You can pick up Talking Angela for free on Google Play.

6. Oscars

The Oscars are gearing up and while the big show doesn’t go live until February 24ththe official Oscars App will keep you up to date before and after the event. You’ll get access to all the nominees, trailers, exclusive photos & videos and a whole lot more. You can even cast your “virtual” ballot and see some of the backstage action on the big night. It’s a must-have app if you watch the Oscars and it’s free to download on Google Play.

7. GroupVox

GroupVox is a new “Push to Talk” app from GroupVox Inc that turns your android device into a Facebook Walkie-Talkie. I haven’t used this one myself (don’t use Facebook), but you can read a bit more about the app from our coverage earlier in the week. GroupVox is free to download on Google Play.

8. Actual Movie Trailers App

If you’re into watching movie trailers, the Actual Movie Trailers App makes it a breeze. It has access to all the hottest trailers around, all trailers are in HD, and it’s super simple to use. You can read more about the app here or pick it up for free on Google Play.
